Workshop: “The Police at the Forefront of Democracy”

Target population: Police officers | Command staff

Interactive workshop To police officers and commanders

"The public's attitude toward the law is perhaps best reflected in its attitude toward the police... The public must be educated to view the police as friends, helpers, representatives of the community, and enforcers of the law. The police must educate the people and view the law not as a decree but as an expression of the will of the people, an order made for the benefit of the public, which does not restrict the freedom of the individual but protects the freedom of others..."
David Ben-Gurion

In these challenging times, there is a vital need for police officers to meet and discuss the challenges facing the police in a democratic society, to process their encounters with citizens at a time when society is in a "state of war," and to strengthen their sense of mission.

This workshop provides a platform for dialogue between police officers and command staff on fundamental issues concerning the role of the police in a democratic society: police-society relations, statehood, police discretion, the values of the Israel Police, and the police in a diverse and polarized society.

Through photographs, films, and illustrations, we will explore the uniqueness and challenges of policing in a democratic society and reinforce the sense of mission of police officers as defenders of democracy.
