Lecture "Lil Tsiganeria" marking Holocaust Remembrance Day and Heroes' Remembrance Day

The lecture "Lil Tsigania – Suffering and Heroism in the Krakow Ghetto" presents the inspiring story of a group of young people from Zionist youth movements who were active in Krakow during the Holocaust and chose – out of a reality of fear and oppression – to raise their heads, organize, and fight. Through the stories of Dolk Liebskind, Shimon Dranger, Gusta Davidson, Avraham Leibowitz, and other fighters, participants will learn about the fascinating human story of young members of educational youth movements who established a militant underground that led one of the first acts of Jewish resistance against the Nazi regime – the bombing of the Zygneria café and the killing of German officers. The lecture focuses on the dilemmas and decisions, the loss and the heavy price, the courage and the heroism. Through the presentation of filmed testimonies, letters, and photographs, we will breathe life into their story and connect their actions to the questions we ask today about responsibility, identity, belonging, and heroism.
